Rishi Dhawan retires from Indian limited-overs cricket

India and Himachal Pradesh fast-bowling allrounder Rishi Dhawan has announced his retirement from Indian limited-overs cricket. The 34-year-old concludes his international career with four caps, including three ODIs and one T20I, all earned in 2016. His retirement follows the completion of the group stage in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Dhawan’s announcement focuses on limited-overs cricket, indicating that he will continue playing first-class cricket, at least for the remainder of the current Ranji Trophy season. Himachal Pradesh, where Dhawan plays, is currently second in Group B and in contention for a quarter-final spot. Dhawan has been a key player for them this season, featuring in all five of their matches so far. He is their second-highest run-scorer with 397 runs at 79.40 and has taken 11 wickets at 28.45.

“It’s with a heavy heart, though I have no regrets, that I announce my retirement from Indian limited-overs cricket,” Dhawan shared on social media. “Cricket has shaped my life for the past 20 years, bringing me immense joy and countless cherished memories that I will hold dear forever.”

“I am deeply grateful for the opportunities I received from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA), Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Kolkata Knight Riders.”

“From my humble beginnings to representing my country on the biggest stages, it has been an honor beyond words. Cricket has been my passion and the driving force behind every day of my life.”
