
Creating Categories
- Log in to Your WordPress Dashboard:
- Go to your WordPress admin panel by visiting
yourwebsite.com/wp-admin
and log in with your credentials.
- Go to your WordPress admin panel by visiting
- Navigate to Categories:
- On the left-hand side, find Posts and click on Categories.
- Add a New Category:
- In the Name field, enter the name of your category (e.g., “Tech News”).
- The Slug field will auto-fill based on the name. You can customize it if needed.
- If this is a sub-category, select a Parent Category from the dropdown.
- Optionally, you can add a Description for the category.
- Click Add New Category.
Creating Tags
- Navigate to Tags:
- Under Posts, click on Tags.
- Add a New Tag:
- In the Name field, enter the name of your tag (e.g., “WordPress Tips”).
- The Slug field will auto-fill based on the name. You can edit it if necessary.
- Optionally, add a Description for the tag.
- Click Add New Tag.
Assigning Categories and Tags to a Post
- Create or Edit a Post:
- Go to Posts and click on Add New or select an existing post to edit.
- Assign Categories:
- On the right-hand side, find the Categories box.
- Check the box next to the categories you want to assign to the post.
- Assign Tags:
- In the Tags box, enter the tags you want to assign to the post, separating each by a comma, or select from the most used tags.
- Publish or Update the Post:
- Click Publish or Update to save your changes.
Tips:
- Categories are hierarchical, allowing for sub-categories, while tags are non-hierarchical.
- Use categories for broader topics and tags for more specific keywords related to your posts.
- Avoid creating too many categories or tags to keep your site well-organized and user-friendly.
