
A fire broke out in the Maha Kumbh Mela area in Prayagraj on Sunday evening around 4:30 PM. The fire occurred at the Gita Press camp in Sector 19, near Shastri Bridge. 180 cottages of the Gita Press were destroyed in the fire.
According to officials, the fire started at 4:10 PM in the Gita Press kitchen when a small cylinder leaked while tea was being made, causing the fire. Two cylinders then exploded.
To extinguish the fire, 12 fire brigade vehicles were sent, and they controlled the blaze within an hour (by 5 PM). One sanyasi’s one lakh rupees were also burned in the fire. Mela CFO (Chief Fire Officer) Pramod Sharma stated that about 500 people were rescued from the fire.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reached the site to assess the situation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also called CM Yogi to get the complete details of the incident. Just before the fire broke out, PM Modi had surveyed the Maha Kumbh Mela area by helicopter.
