Mahakumbh: A record set for air travel in Prayagraj, with this many passengers traveling in seven days.

A record has been set for air travel at Prayagraj Airport during the Mahakumbh. In just seven days, over 30,000 passengers have traveled through the airport. Since the airport’s construction, this is the highest number of passengers in a single week. Notably, in the past seven days, a record 226 flights have operated.

The Mahakumbh Mela began on January 13. With the start of the fair, the number of passengers also began to increase. During the past week, a record was set for the highest number of passengers traveling in a single day. On January 14, during the first Amrit Snan of Mahakumbh on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, 5,250 passengers traveled on 38 flights in one day. This was the first time since the opening of Prayagraj Airport in January 2019 that more than 5,000 passengers traveled in a single day on January 14.

Between January 13 and 19, a record 30,172 passengers traveled through the airport in just one week, and in the past ten days, a total of 39,110 passengers have passed through. The airport authorities believe that with direct air connectivity to many cities, the increase in passenger numbers suggests that the number of air travelers this month could exceed 80,000. The highest number of passengers at the airport was recorded in May 2023, when approximately 63,000 passengers traveled.

Here is how the passenger count increased over the past seven days:
