Mahakumbh 2025: With increased facilities and security, the number of pilgrims has risen, leading to a significant increase in tourism in the state.

Mahakumbh 2025: Religious tourism in Uttar Pradesh is growing rapidly. The number of people visiting Ayodhya, Kashi, Mathura, and the Mahakumbh has increased manifold.

Previously, due to a lack of facilities, Kumbh bathing was a difficult task, and some people, despite their desire, were unable to participate in the Kumbh. The facilities provided to pilgrims in the Mahakumbh have had a positive impact, and this time, over 40 crore people are expected to bathe at the Sangam and earn spiritual merit. Among these pilgrims, more than 12 crore are expected to be financially affluent. The continuous arrival and stay of industrialists from across the country and abroad in the Kumbh area is a sign of this trend. The easy arrangements have led to a growth of over 15% in spiritual tourism.

100% Growth with Every Kumbh

According to Prof. Shekhar Shukla, if we look at the data of pilgrims attending the Mahakumbh from 1977 to 2025, the number of pilgrims has been steadily increasing since 2013. With each Kumbh, there has been more than 100% growth. In 2001, 7 crore pilgrims attended the Kumbh, and this number grew to 24 crore in 2019. This time, the record is expected to reach 40 crore. In the past decade, the expenditure for the three Kumbhs held in Uttar Pradesh has increased from ₹1300 crore to ₹7500 crore. Clearly, there has been an unprecedented increase in the facilities provided for the Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh. Due to the ease and convenience of travel, the number of pilgrims attending the Kumbh is estimated to be equivalent to the population of 35 countries.
